The inaugural issue of The Fogbell Press Miscellany gathers together local history, civic notices, seasonal receipts, and original investigations from Nova Scotia. Within its pages are a search for the origins of Halifax's mysterious Bridge Bell, notes from the week's public record, edible flower recipes for the late spring garden, and a selection of publications from the Press.
“Church bells tend to wear their history openly. Crosses. Dedications. Parish names. Donor inscriptions. Decorative borders cast proudly into the bronze. They are not merely instruments; they are monuments with opinions about themselves. This bell, by contrast, possessed all the vanity of a government filing cabinet.”
The Fogbell Press Miscellany is a recurring collection of local history, civic notices, seasonal observations, archival curiosities, household receipts, original investigations, and works of literary and artistic interest. Published from Nova Scotia, each number seeks to preserve and celebrate the stories, places, and traditions that too often pass quietly into memory. Released every other Saturday.
Printed on 100% recycled paper.
“Today, these pages stand as a reminder that many of the challenges faced by earlier generations—rising costs, uncertain times, and the need for thrift—were met with knowledge, ingenuity, and a well-stocked pantry.”
